Florida is not just about Miami and Key West…

We recently took the opportunity of a long week-end to explore a little further North on the Floridian Northeast Coast. The final destination of this trip was Saint Augustine, 4 hours North drive from Miami. It’s one of the first places I was advised to see when I arrived in Miami. I’ll post about this lovely place soon. But on our way to Saint Augustine, we chose the long by-way along the beaches of the East Coast. We were amazed by the difference with Miami. The landscapes are charming, nature is wilder, no buildings facing the ocean, with a kind of French Atlantic touch…

It’s such a refreshing and pleasant journey, and so close from Miami. I’m sharing here some my best addresses and spots…

Stuart Beach (two hours drive from Miami)

Stuart Beach is a beautiful and natural place. There, you can have a walk on the beach, watch fishermen and admire massive wooden holiday homes. It really feels like the French West Coast, and this was so good!

You can have a lunch at the Inlet Grill (110 S Ocean Dr, Fort Pierce), good food, nice place and beautiful view!

And then you can have a lovely walk on the pier just opposite the restaurant. That’s a blast for the kids, playing hide and seek with the waves and feeling the ocean’s energy!

Melbourne (three hours drive from Miami)

Melbourne is a nice place to stay, and even to live in I think. Life along the Indian River must be very gentle. The sky is beautiful and the sunsets and sunrises are so breathtaking!

When in Melbourne, you can have a lunch at the Squid Lips, 1477 Pineapple Ave. This lovely place overlooks the Indian River with chilling Jamaican music…
You can also try this French restaurant: La Crepe de France, 707 E New Haven Ave, Melbourne

The architecture of Melbourne Coast is not really to be remembered though. There are huge rectangular hotels and buildings all along the Ocean… The view from the hotel, overlooking the Indian River and Melbourne city, is amazing !

And we happen to have some French friends here from our home country. They are dealing a JetSky rental Hayley’s Jet Sky and Boat Rental, we had a blast paying a visit to the Dolphins in the Indian River…

A magic sunset on Melbourne Beach which is so peaceful and quiet…

Observing the sun rising from the Ocean from our room was such a suspended moment! This kind of moments when the time seem to stop…

Cocoa Beach: perfect place for a drink on the pier!

The Pier at Cocoa Beach is so exotic, overlooking the beach, offering multiple places to have a drink or a burger.

Daytona Beach (four hours drive from Miami):

This place is known worldwide for its car races. Frankly speaking, it is not the nicest place in the world. Anyway, sometimes you just need to see these kind of places to appreciate others, right?

Cars are allowed to drive ON the Beach for a 10 dollars fee. A little too harmful to the earth… anyway, it gave me the opportunity to take pictures that I really love while I was WALKING on the Beach!

I would love to know your feelings about this part of Florida… have you ever visited it? If you happen some time in Florida, this is definitely worth a visit!
